Can I participate in therapy virtually?

Yes, True North offers sessions in-person and through telehealth. Telehealth means that instead of meeting in person, we'll meet virtually using a platform that has been determined to be confidential and encrypted.

It’s easy to use like Skype or Facetime, and you won’t need to download any software, but it will keep your therapy session confidential and in line with HIPAA guidelines. Before each appointment, you will receive an email from your therapist with a link that will allow you to join the telehealth session.

I’ve never been in counseling before, and I’m a little nervous. What should I expect?

It’s totally normal to feel anxious before you meet with your therapist. The thought of telling a stranger your personal concerns is understandably anxiety-provoking. Knowing what will happen might help to calm your nerves, though.

  1. Call to schedule your first therapy appointment. We will need some of your basic information, like your address and contact information, and a brief explanation of why you will be coming to therapy. This will help us match you with a therapist who has the expertise that will be helpful for you.

  2. Before your first appointment, check your email for an invitation to the Client Portal. Create an account, and set aside about 30 minutes to complete the initial paperwork. This will ensure that all of your time at the first session can be spent speaking with your therapist and going over your concerns.

  3. When you first arrive at the office, check the sign on the wall to see which room your therapist is in, and flip the light switch corresponding with that room. That lets her know you’re here.

  4. Take a seat and feel free to get a drink from the refrigerator while you wait for her to come and bring you back to the room.

In the first session, your therapist will review the paperwork you filled out online and will talk with you about the reasons you’re seeking counseling. She’ll ask a lot of questions to try to get to know you and learn about your experience.

Your job in the first appointment is to pay attention to how you’re feeling. Do you feel comfortable? Do you feel taken care of? Do you feel like your therapist is able to understand what you’re experiencing? Feel free to ask her any questions or concerns you may have. By the end of the session, if you have the sense that your therapist will be able to help you with your concerns, you can schedule another appointment with her and get started on the path to living a better life.

How much do therapy sessions cost?

Our therapy sessions range from $180 to $200 dollars for a 50-55-minute session. True North is not listed as a provider with any insurance companies, but we would be happy to contact your insurance company to see if there is a possibility for you to get partial or full reimbursement for the cost of services.

When you give us a call, please have your insurance card handy so we can gather some information and check into your benefits.

Does True North have a sliding scale?

Our typical rates fall between $180-$200 for therapy sessions, and we do not offer a sliding scale. However, we do offer a discounted rate for clients who most need it. In order to find out more information about this, please contact us at 859-740-7374 or visit  openpathcollective.org.

How long will I be in counseling?

Length of time in counseling can vary based on the type of issue you’re working on and the type of therapy you’re receiving. Short-term counseling typically runs between 4-12 sessions and long-term counseling can last longer.
